Body image acceptance

These are clouds.

When we look at clouds what do you think?

I bet you just look at it and think, it’s a cloud, so what?

I bet you don’t look at it and think:

That cloud would look better if it was bigger, smaller, darker, lighter, wispier, healthier, fluffier, greyer, whiter….

I bet you don’t look it and think:

I wish it looked more like this other cloud or feel glad that you don’t have an ugly cloud like that hanging over your house!

So why do we have these thoughts about our and other’s weight, shape and food we eat?

Because society and culture has taught us that how we look and what we eat places values on us as people.

But we are not taught to place values on clouds.

If you find yourself placing values on your body or someone else’s. Stop. You wouldn’t place those values on a cloud, so why put them on yourself or others?

When we look at this tree what do you think?

I bet you just look at it and think, it’s a tree, so what?

I bet you don’t look at it and think:

That tree would look better if it was bigger, smaller, darker, lighter, healthier, taller, shorter, different shape or coloured leaves.

I bet you don’t look it and think:

I wish it looked more like this other tree or feel glad that you don’t have an ugly tree like that in your garden!

So why do we have these thoughts about our and other’s weight, shape and food we eat?

Because society and culture has taught us that how we look and what we eat places values on us as people.

But we are not taught to place values on trees.

If you find yourself placing values on your body or someone else’s. Stop. You wouldn’t place those values on a tree so why put them on yourself or others?
