What is the perfect diet?
Which are the best foods to eat?
Which foods shouldn’t I eat?
I get asked these questions a lot!
And my answer is always the same.
Just. Eat. Real. Food.
There is no one way to eat that is perfect. Some people thrive on a vegetarian or vegan diet, some people love being low or lower carb and others choose a Mediterranean type lifestyle. All these ways of eating can be done in a healthy way or an unhealthy way.
For example: you could be vegetarian and….
eat lots of processed breads, biscuits and pasta, with no vegetables a serve or 2 of fruit and very little protein foods like legumes and tofu.
eat lots of vegetables and fruit, wholefood grains such as oats, spelt, homemade rye bread and varied protein sources such as eggs, lentils, chickpeas etc.
see the difference? One is reliant on highly processed foods and one is focusing on whole foods, mostly plants.
My advice? Choose a way of eating that suits your body and your budget. Focus your way of eating on whole foods, foods that grow and mostly plants. Aim for half of every meal to be vegetables and fruit. Everything else is just detail!
And remember its what you do every day that matters, not what you do sometimes.
